Whole grains are packed with nutrients, vitamins, and minerals. You can easily add them to your diet by replacing “white” grains with whole grains in recipes, snacks, and meals.

This whole wheat spaghetti pie uses whole wheat pasta in place of white spaghetti. It offers lots of nutrition and great taste the whole family will enjoy. Add a salad or a side of steamed veggies for a complete meal.

Whole Wheat Spaghetti Pie

1 cup cooked whole wheat spaghetti
2 egg whites, beaten
1/4 cup parmesan cheese
1 cup nonfat cottage cheese
1 pound lean ground turkey or extra lean ground beef
1/2 cup chopped onion
1/2 cup chopped bell pepper
1/2 cup chopped tomato
1 small can tomato paste
1 tsp. garlic powder
1 tsp. oregano
1/2 tsp. salt
1/2 tsp. black pepper
1 tsp. Splenda
1/2 cup shredded low fat mozzarella cheese

Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Spray a pie plate with cooking spray. Stir together spaghetti, egg whites, and parmesan cheese. Spread in the bottom of the pie plate. Layer with cottage cheese.

In a skillet, cook meat with onion and pepper until meat is browned. Stir in tomato, tomato paste, seasonings, and Splenda. Spread onto spaghetti crust. Bake uncovered for 20 minutes. Sprinkle on mozzarella cheese and bake 5 additional minutes.
