Today was a hectic day schooling the kids, shopping for groceries, and going in to work to train a client. I also had to take my boys to their evening activity, feed them dinner, walk the dogs, etc. It turned out to be a crazy day.
In between everything, I was able to squeeze in a one-hour workout. I wanted to burn the maximum amount of calories I could in that time while hitting cardio, legs, and abs.
To do this, I needed a tough, fast-paced workout that kept my heart rate up. What I did was start with a 30-minute treadmill workout. After warming up, I did intervals of walking, lunging, and running while increasing the incline every 5 minutes. This got me off to a good start!
Then I strength trained my legs with lunges, step ups, hamstring presses, and squats. I moved quickly from one set to another with little recover time. Keeping my heart rate up kept my calorie burn up.
I ended with abs on the Bosu half ball. This kind of ab workout takes a lot of effort and kept me working hard. I was happy with the calorie burn at the end of the hour.
When your schedule is busy, squeeze in your workout however you can. Even if you have only 30 minutes, do it and do it well. You can still burn calories and condition your body.
The key to a shortened workout is to turn up the intensity. Don’t mosey around the gym on auto pilot. Warm up then crank it up. Work hard, work fast. Keep your heart rate up by using intervals and moving quickly from set to set.
Make your short workout a solid workout by turning up the intensity!
