I’m getting ready to go on a trip for work next week. I’ll be staying in a hotel and will be in meetings all day.
So I’ve been thinking ahead and checking the area out. I want to stay on track with both my eating and exercise. I know this can be tough when traveling, but I want to do well.
For food, I’m packing protein bars, almonds, tea bags, and diet cocoa mix in my suitcase. There is a small store in the hotel where I’m hoping to get fruit and yogurt. (I’ll have a small refrigerator in my room.) This will take care of my snacks.
A continental breakfast will be served at the hotel – I’m crossing my fingers for eggs and oatmeal. Then I’ll be at my host’s mercy for other mealtimes. Since it’s with the American Council on Exercise, I’m assuming they’ll provide healthy options and take us to restaurants with healthy choices!
Exercise should be fun. I always like exploring new places and I’ve been told it’s safe to walk around since I’ll be in the business district (San Diego). There is also a YMCA within walking distance. They have early morning classes I want to try and I figure I’ll be awake very early since I’m on East Coast time.
Here are my top tips to make your travels healthy:
- Take healthy snacks along.
- Check out the hotel’s amenities to see if they have a fitness center (or one nearby).
- Call ahead and ask if you can walk safely outdoors.
- Look online at area restaurants for ones with healthy choices.
- Exercise early at the beginning of your day (you’ll be too tired at night).
