Take it Like Medicine

Several years ago I was weeding my flower beds on a warm, breezy day. As the wind blew my bangs into my eyes, I brushed them away and tucked them behind my ears. I worked for hours, enjoying the fine weather. Unbeknownst to me, among the weeds were poison ivy plants.

I broke out all over my face, neck, arms and hands. The exposure was so great, the poison entered my blood stream. I began to break out on my stomach and back.  It was the most painful, horrible case of poison ivy I’ve ever had.

I’m not one to take much medicine, but let me tell you how relieved I was to take the medicine the doctor gave me. I wouldn’t have missed a dose for anything. I was desperate to feel better.

Have you ever been treated for an extremely uncomfortable condition and were so glad to get medicine? Would you let a busy job, kid’s activities, or your social life interfere with taking your doses?

What if it was a life-threatening condition? What if you would die without the proper medication? Would you make sure you always had it with you and never ran out?

I ask you to consider how being overweight is a serious medical condition.

If you are overweight and you’re not sick and have no joint problems yet, count your blessings. But wake up to the reality that abusing your body will eventually break it down.

What if you could take medicine right now to lose weight and reduce your risk of disease? Would you take it? Would you let your life interfere with taking your daily doses?

Too often I hear overweight people make excuses for why they binged, skipped exercise, didn’t journal their food, etc. But those things are the exact medicine they need!

As you consider making healthy changes, look at it as the medicine you need to get better.
