As I sit here typing, my back, shoulders, and arms are hurting! If I move my legs around, they’ll groan in protest. I haven’t had a workout that killed me like this in a long time. (I just want to go to bed!!)
I totally switched up my workout and did a bunch of new moves that use a lot of ballistic and full body movements. I rested as little as possible to keep the heart pounding. Yowzer. I’m feeling it.

I teach a first and second grade gym class and I’m always amazed by the kids. We start every class off with a warm up – 20 jumping jacks, 20 pushups, 20 run in place, and 20 crunches. Then we do sprints, frog hops (jump squats in disguise), and more sprints across the gymnasium.
They love it.

Do you remember “the mile” in high school? I do – and painfully so. I was the fat kid who couldn’t run even a quarter of the way. I was huffing and puffing, red in the face, sick to my stomach, walking as fast as I could, but left behind. Everybody else finished way before me. I could see them standing around waiting for me to finally drag myself in.
It made me feel sad and humiliated. I hated running.

Today was a hectic day schooling the kids, shopping for groceries, and going in to work to train a client. I also had to take my boys to their evening activity, feed them dinner, walk the dogs, etc. It turned out to be a crazy day.
In between everything, I was able to squeeze in a one-hour workout. I wanted to burn the maximum amount of calories I could in that time while hitting cardio, legs, and abs.

For years I put up with the little toe on my right foot being pinched inside my shoe. Even when I thought I had found comfortable sneakers, after wearing them for awhile I would start to feel that pinch.
Several years ago I finally found sneakers with mesh-type fabric on the top and sides. Ahh, perfect. Now my feet can flex with movement and no more pinching. It sure makes long runs a lot more pleasant.

There’s not a more enjoyable way to burn calories than walking, running, or cycling down a country road on a sunny day. Seeing wildflowers in bloom, animals romping in fields, and birds soaring in the sky is a balm to the soul.
But those country roads and mountain trails can be somewhat lonesome. Here are some ways to stay safe when you’re exercising outdoors.

The hardest time for me to motivate myself to exercise is Sunday. Yesterday was no exception. We got home from church and the house smelled delicious from the turkey meatloaf and potatoes baking in the oven.
While my family was getting ready to sit down to a nice meal, I was changing into my shorts and t-shirt, and tying on my running shoes. The house felt so cozy and I was more interested in having a date with the couch than running the hilly route I knew was ahead of me.
