If you watch this week’s cooking shows, read the recipes in the newspaper, or clip coupons from the grocery store you’ll see it’s all about food for the Super Bowl. Sodas, pizza, chips, nachos, mozzarella sticks, brownie bars, etc.

If you’re going to a Super Bowl party, you’ve got a challenge ahead of you. No doubt you’ll be surrounded by all kinds of tempting foods. This makes sticking to the diet pretty tough.

If you’re throwing a party, you have it a little easier. You can be sure to have plenty of healthy alternatives available for yourself.

Here are 7 ideas for healthy party snacking whether you’re taking something to a friend’s party or hosting your own.

  1. Chips and dip: Baked tortilla chips with salsa. To make it a little sinful, melt 2% milk Velveeta and stir in a jar of salsa for dipping.
  2. Chocolate covered strawberries: Start with quality dark chocolate. Melt in the microwave then roll strawberries in the melted chocolate. Spread on wax paper to cool.
  3. Veggie platter: Arrange fresh, colorful veggies on a tray with low fat Ranch and honey mustard dressing.
  4. Apples and caramel: Slice apples and sprinkle with cinnamon. Serve with low fat caramel dip. Place chopped peanuts in a bowl to sprinkle on.
  5. Whole wheat wraps: Spread whole wheat wraps with low fat cream cheese, or peanut butter, and low sugar jelly. Roll up and cut into pieces.
  6. French fries: Cut potatoes into wedges. Toss with olive oil and spices. Place on a baking sheet and bake at 425 degrees until soft inside and browned on the outside.
  7. Chicken fingers: Coat skinless, boneless chicken breast tenders with seasoned bread crumbs and spray with cooking spray. Place on a baking sheet and bake at 400 degrees until cooked through and browned.
