Low On Motivation?

It would be great if every day you felt totally motivated, on top of your game, and pumped up with will power. Well, you’re lucky if you get one of those days a week.

For most people, motivation waxes and wanes. Stress, busyness, and tiredness can all hack away at the strongest person’s determination. Not to mention that big fight with your spouse or “that time” of the month. (Give me chocolate!)

Motivation to eat healthy foods and do your exercise just isn’t going to be full power every day. So, what do you do when you’re low on motivation?

Rely on your structure.

Structure, huh? That’s all the stuff you put into place to keep you on track. It’s like the solid framework holding your house walls in place. Healthy lifestyle structure holds you up when the going is tough.

Here’s structure you need to have as your framework:

  1. Food log. Don’t get away from writing down what you eat and tracking calories. You have to be accountable in this area. As soon as you let this slip, you’ll start mindless eating.
  2. Clean out your house. Keep your environment supportive. Get rid of junk food and stock up on healthy food. (There shouldn’t be any trouble food in the house for you to binge on.)
  3. Exercise whether you feel like it or not, consistently. It’s better to exercise daily for a shorter time than to skip a day and exercise longer sporadically.
  4. Weigh in. Oh, yes, it can be painful, but weight in 1-2 times per week. Try to weigh at the same time of day on the same scale. Jot this number down in your food log.
  5. Have an accountability buddy. Ask a spouse or friend to check your food log, weigh you in once a week, and meet you for exercise. When two walk together, they can go much farther.
