I Want to Lose 10 Pounds…By Tomorrow!

I was talking with a lady recently and she said, “I want to lose 10 pounds…by tomorrow!” Don’t we all!

Oh, why does weight loss have to be a process? Why can’t we go to bed one night and wake up the next day 10 pounds lighter? Why does it have to be so much hard work? So much discipline? So much time?

The fact is; weight loss is a tough process. (If it was easy nobody would have a weight problem!)

There are two ways of looking at this process:
1.) With a victim’s mentality: “It’s so hard to lose weight. I have a slow metabolism and bad genes. My life is too hectic. My family doesn’t support me. The people at work bring junk food in. It’s so unfair that I can’t eat like her;” or,

2.) With an overcomer’s mentality: “It may be tough, but this is what I really want. I will do whatever it takes to eat right. I’ll take time for myself to exercise. I will find a buddy who’ll support me in this. I’ll ask my coworkers to not offer me junk food. It doesn’t matter what other people can or can’t do; I’m doing this for me.”

Weight loss is a day-by-day process. Embrace that process. Embrace the difficulty of it. Instead of feeling frustrated, open up your arms and say, “It’s okay. I’m strong. I can do this.”

If you look at the weight loss process as your enemy, you will always feel defeated. If you look at it as a journey to wholeness, you will see it as your friend.

You may not be able to lose 10 pounds by tomorrow, but you can lose weight. You can engage in the process and succeed.
