I’m Killing Myself With Food

One client recently related to me, “I’m killing myself with food.” It was meant in a joking matter concerning weight, but how true she was.

Sometimes we focus too much on how weight makes us look. We have to wear big sizes, we have a hard time fitting into small seats, and our thighs rub together when we walk. Our relationships suffer, our job performance suffers, and our energy’s in the tank because we’re so big.

But beyond how uncomfortable it feels to be overweight, being overweight is deadly.

Do you know what extra weight will get you? Increased risk of:
Heart disease
Diabetes
High blood pressure
High cholesterol
Stroke
Cancer
Fatty liver disease
Gall bladder disease
Breathing problems
Arthritis and joint pain
Difficulty conceiving
Premature death

I’ve seen young overweight people who are still able to live in a fairly comfortable manner because of their youth. But as they age, the weight will take its toll.

Then I’ve seen older (and I’m talking 40-60 year olds) overweight people who are nearly immobile. They can hardly walk, they struggle and pant to get in and out of a car, they can no longer walk around the grocery store, etc. I’ve seen their medicine bottles lined up on their counters and how little energy they have for anything in life. How sad.

Food is life. Food is death. What food choices are you making?
