Get Back on Track after a Tough Week

by lisagraham | April 17, 2009 | In Mindset Comments Off

Several of my clients had a tough week. One was under a lot of stress and found herself eating to cope. Another one was sick with a cold/flu and couldn’t exercise. Then another one attended a funeral out of town and had to eat the food provided by neighbors and friends – like fluffy lemon cake with raspberry filling.

It was discouraging to them to see either a weight gain or no weight loss for the week.

“Remember, there is no such thing as perfection. Everyone has lapses,” I said. “You have to just chalk it up to a bad week and move on.”

There is no one who doesn’t have a bad day or a bad week from time to time. Whether eating badly, not exercising, or both, it happens. Vacations, sickness, work overtime, etc., can trip you up.

The ones who succeed in their weight loss journey are the ones who can pick themselves up and get back on track quickly. No matter how bad their day or week was, they return as soon as possible to on-track behaviors.

If you’ve fallen off track, check to make sure these four things are in place:

  1. Have a supportive environment free of junk food and stocked with healthy foods
  2. Log your food intake, calories, and exercise minutes everyday
  3. Exercise at least 5 times a week (even if it’s a short session)
  4. Take the food you need with you

When you’ve had a tough week, don’t let discouragement keep you down. Pick yourself up and get right back on track.
