Eating for Weight Loss: Step 4

Get rid of all junk.

Now we come to a touchy subject. Many people feel resistant, or even resentful, about giving up all their junk food. They want to hold onto a few “little” things.

It’s not that one pretzel or three chips will sabotage your weight loss. It’s that one pretzels turns into five, and three chips turn into half a bag.

Junk food is engineered to make you want more. Flavor enhancers, sodium, and sugar are used to cause cravings and make the food addictive. It’s almost impossible to stop once you get started.

Getting rid of all junk food will actually make your diet easier. Once you cut sugary, salty, and fatty foods out, your cravings will diminish and even go away. Doesn’t this sound easier than fighting off the urge to open the cupboard all day long?

Replace all that processed food with whole foods like fresh fruit, no sugar yogurt, raw almonds and walnuts, whole grains (no salt), and fresh lean meats you prepare. (This means cleaning out your kitchen, office, car, etc.!)

Give it a couple of days. You will be amazed at how well you feel and how little you crave junk food. Once it’s out of your system, you will feel balanced and energetic.

If you want, add a treat once a week that you can enjoy without guilt. Then get right back to your clean eating!
