Blizzard, Kids, Pancakes and Pizza

We’ve been buried under snow, winds and drifts. The neighbor kids came over to play this morning before the wind was torrential. Then they all piled into our house to warm up. Nobody had eaten breakfast so I made pancakes.

How tempting those pancakes looked and smelled!

I had already talked myself through the temptation and decided what I could have: eggs, rice cake with PB, and diet mocha. So I made it through breakfast.

The kids came in and out probably a half dozen times. It was too cold to stay out for very long. Between loads of laundry, my dryer was kept busy drying all the snow clothes.

I ended up feeding all the kids lunch too. I found a couple of cans of soup and a few frozen pizzas to heat up for them. Fortunately, I had prepared stuffed peppers and had them baking in the oven. It was a perfect lunch for me that kept me out of the pizza!

Whew. Another diet disaster avoided.

The kids finally settled in to watch a movie. Now it was snack time. I was going to make them popcorn, but I decided it was way too big of a temptation for me to overcome. (I love popcorn!!) Instead, I gave them Goldfish and Graham crackers.

I had some baby carrots and hot tea to give myself something to munch on.

The wind is still howling, the snow still swirling, and I still have several hours left in the day. And there’s something about a snowstorm that makes me want to eat something “special.” But if I don’t want to cave, I’ll need to stay on my guard and plan out my food.

Well, I made it this far. I think can get through the rest of this snowy day!
